Synopsis
I attended a pre-screening of 'The Walk' based on a True Story of Phillippe Petit a Live Wire artist. In 1974 Phillippe gathers his trusted group of friends to accomplish his crazy dream of walking between the Two Towers of the World Trade Centre in New York. He defines the term dare devil in this edge of your seat drama. There is a 2008 Documentary called Man On Wire that chronicles the risky walk between the Two Towers. Directed by Robert Zemeckis the film begins with Joseph Gordon-Levitt playing Petit in New York as he explains how he is set to achieve the Impossible dream and it is a visual extravaganza right through to the end.

My take on the film
For those who have seen the documentary I would encourage you to see the film. One; it is in 3-D and that Imax theatre is Incredible. Two; Ben Kingsley is in the film and who would not want to see Ben Kingsley? Third; my personal favorite are the aesthetic characters that are Paris and New York, I kept being reminded of Corinne Bailey-Rae’s song Paris Nights and New York Mornings. The very last scene is of the towers, I could not help but think of the 9/11 attacks and for some reason I walked away feeling other than the film recognizing Phillippe for his mark in history, the film also remembers the Towers and how much of an Important piece of history it held to New York prior to the unfortunate attack. No matter how much they can try to rectify the buildings, they just won’t have the towers back.

I really enjoyed that it was in 3-D there are parts in the film where I had to cover my head at things that seemed to be falling and coming directly at me. Joseph Gordon-Levitt does a good job at pulling off the French accent and his French speaking is convincing. Principal photography began in May 2014.

The film will release in South African Imax cinema’s on the 09 October 2015.

*It is Interesting to think that this particular story has been sealed in Book: To reach the clouds, Documentary: Man on wire, and now Film: The Walk. That is quite something.
