Opening to the public today, (24 November), the six-theatre site now boasts a newly-designed foyer area and the introduction of a new catering concept, the Nouveau Café. The designer café will offer a delicious array of food and drinks, including bespoke coffee, cakes and organic chocolates, and a cheese platter. The menu will expand over the next few months to include a range of select red and white wines and craft beers, as well as gourmet café food items such as sandwiches, salads and burgers.
Says Wanda Matandela, CEO of Ster-Kinekor Theatres: “We are constantly innovating different ways to elevate the cinema experience for our audiences across all our sites. Cinema Nouveau at V&A Waterfront attracts a loyal audience of art-house movie lovers, who enjoy the finer things in life. As such, it was time to give the complex itself a facelift!
“Together with our suppliers, we have spent the last few months renovating the entire space, and we are delighted with the end result. We would like to take this opportunity to thank our patrons for their patience during this process – but, we are sure they will agree with us that the wait has been worth it.”
The cinema foyer area downstairs offers a refreshed, clean and modern style. The upstairs area (mezzanine level) has been transformed into the Nouveau Café – a space designed to become the social hub of the complex, where customers can enjoy a selection of good food and drinks, both before and after the movie.
These include a cheese platter with a selection of cheddar, cream cheese with black pepper and white rock with cranberries, served with biscuits. This will make a delicious pairing with the wines, once these are available on the menu.
“When it comes to the coffee and cake choices, our customers are going to have a hard time of it, deciding between a slice of walnut truffle cake, New York cheesecake or the decadent four-layer carrot cake – of course, they are welcome to try one of each! The coffee is freshly-brewed from imported coffee beans from the Helmut Sachers Kaffee Stambulia range, and promises to satisfy the most sophisticated coffee aficionado’s palate!” comments Matandela.
Another luxury addition to the catering offering is a range of imported chocolates that are sure to sweeten any movie moment. These include organic chocolate with Love Sea Salt and a 71% dark chocolate variant.
“The facelift for Cinema Nouveau at V&A Waterfront is complete and we can’t wait for our customers to experience it first-hand. We want them to enjoy the new space, try out the tasty new menu treats and relax inside the cinemas. We have created the perfect venue for family and friends to enjoy each other’s company for a few special hours, while being transported into a magical story unfolding on the big screen,” comments Matandela.
